About

ABOUT

Swing Fling is a party full of dozens of daytime social dance workshops, hours and hours of west coast swing social dance parties (with four all-nighters in a row!), and fun competitions open to everyone from newcomers to professionals. Saturday night’s Superstar Show features spotlighted exhibitions by a YouTube-famous professional staff. Nearly 1000 dancers from the mid-Atlantic and beyond will completely take over the event hotel and all of its giant meeting spaces for four days of fun. We provide a friendly, professional and welcoming atmosphere for everyone to dance together. Take a peek at the schedule, reserve your hotel, get your weekend pass, and join us to enjoy a West Coast Swing dance vacation.

History & Future

This is DC area’s oldest and longest running West Coast Swing dance weekend, Swing Fling was born in 1993 under the direction of Barry Durand and Dawn (Blorstad) Garrish. It has always been primarily a West Coast Swing event, however over the years Shag, Hand Dance, Lindy Hop, Hustle, Zouk and Salsa have also been featured. Swing Fling is an original and continuing World Swing Dance Council (WSDC) member event, and a founding member of the National Association of Swing Dance Events (NASDE).

DC’s famous summer WCS party leaped to the next level in 2011 under new ownership by Dave Moldover and the Dance Jam Productions team. DJP’s three-event tour, DC Swing eXperience (DCSX), MADjam, and Swing Fling has become famous around the world of West Coast Swing for inclusive & fun social WCS dancing, spectacular production value, and standard-setting attention to every detail. In 2017 Kay Newhouse joined the Dance Jam team as a co-director of all three events, with special focus on making our parties even more fun for professionals, newcomers and everyone else who joins us for these big weekend West Coast Swing parties.
