Music Theory for Westies
Unlock the Music. Elevate Your Dance.

This unique workshop is designed specifically for West Coast Swing dancers who love the music – but aren’t professional musicians. If you’ve ever wondered what terms like verse, pre-chorus, or bridge really mean, or how to recognize them while dancing, this class is for you.

In Music Theory for Westies, we break down popular songs using visual tools and audio isolation techniques to reveal what’s happening beneath the surface. You’ll learn to identify individual elements like vocals, drums, or bass, and develop your ear to follow each one with intention.

We’ll explore how musical phrasing and form create cues you can feel, anticipate, and respond to, making your dancing more musical, dynamic, and confident.

Whether you’re a social dancer or a competitor, this workshop will transform how you hear music – and how you move to it.

10 minutes of personal instruction with a West Coast Swing expert. A great way to get individual help with your dance goals. They will identify things to help you right away, diagnose problems and give you a customized plan for success. $15 each.  Find these in the “add ons” menu when you register. You must also purchase a session pass or EZ pass.

About the instructors:

Sean & Alyssa McKeever are a celebrated West Coast Swing partnership known internationally for their competitive excellence, innovative teaching, and deep contributions to the WCS community. Originally from Northern California, both dancers developed strong individual foundations—Sean’s background is in Martial Arts and Ballroom Dance, Alyssa started with Lindy Hop. As teenagers, they both found west coast swing and rapidly rose through the competitive ranks in parallel.

They shared the dance floor for years as they both built their individual careers, and in 2022, they decided to join forces as a partnership.

It didn’t take long for them to fall head over heels in love, and they got married in August of 2023 in Carmel, CA.

Since then, they have quickly become one of the most influential partnerships in West Coast Swing.  In 2025 they clinched the Open World Swing Dance Championships Classic Division title, a pinnacle achievement at one of the dance world’s most prestigious events. That same year they also secured top honors winning the NASDE Tour and the USA Grand Nationals Championship, underscoring their dominance across the competitive circuit.

Beyond competition, Sean & Alyssa are sought-after global instructors, known for their creative choreography, emphasis on musicality, and warm teaching style. They travel full time teaching workshops, classes, intensives, and community events worldwide, inspiring dancers of all levels to grow technically and expressively within the West Coast Swing tradition. Their contributions as educators, competitors, and innovators have made them influential figures in the ongoing evolution of West Coast Swing, earning them both an induction into The California Swing Dance Hall of Fame.
